New subnotebook PC from Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi's A5-size, power-saving mobile computer, the Amity CN, comes with a 166-MHz Pentium MMX CPU, 32MB of RAM (expandable to 96MB), 2.1GB hard disk, and two PC Card slots; a floppy disk drive can be purchased separately. The Amity CN also features 1.1MB of VRAM (with built-in graphic accelerator) and an 8.4-inch SVGA (800x600) TFT screen. Battery life is about 1.8 hours.
The retail price of the Amity CN is "open."

Aiwa's V-BF5601 is a 56K-bps external fax/modem for Windows 95/NT and Macintosh computers. It may be set horizontally or vertically and comes with a built-in AC power source that eliminates "spaghetti wiring." Included with the modem are Internet Explorer and two English/Japanese Web translation packages.
The retail price of the V-BF5601 is \22,800. An upgrade to ITU-T v.90 (the international standard) is available free of charge.

A mobile battleship joins Compaq's Armada
Compaq's newly released Armada 1598DMT is the high-end, business-oriented Notebook PC in the Armada 1500 series. The 1598DMT features a 13.3-inch TFT color LCD screen, 266-MHz Pentium MMX CPU, 32MB of EDO RAM (expandable to 96MB), 2MB of video memory, 4GB hard disk, and 20X CD-ROM drive. A 56K-bps modem (14.4K-bps fax) and AC adapter plus USB port are built in, and Win95 is preinstalled.
The Armada 1598DMT retails for \600,000.

High-end digital camera from Casio
The new QV-5000SX is the high-end model of Casio's QV Digital Series. This liquid crystal digital camera has a 4X zoom lens and can record up to 6.4 seconds of PC-displayable animation. Images can be displayed on a PC at a resolution of up to 1280x960 pixels.
The 8MB of flash memory can record up to 16 "high quality," 30 "quality," 57 standard, and 88 economy mode photos. There are editing functions for adding text and special effects to recorded images.

Hewlett-Packard's HP LaserJet 5000N is a network-capable, high-speed laser printer with true 1200 dpi resolution. It comes with a 100-MHz RISC processor Ethernet network interface, and a TrueType rasterizer that maintains complex graphic data in raster form for quick printing of multiple copies. The paper tray holds up to 850 sheets of A3 paper; printing speed is 16 pages per minute. Maintenance is provided free of charge for one year. The basic HP LaserJet 5000N retails for \338,000; optional accessories also available.
