A fruitful harvest from Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi has introduced a new model in its popular Apricot series. The Apricot LS660 features a 333-MHz Pentium II CPU, 32MB of SD-RAM (expandable to 384MB), 4.3GB hard disk (upgradable to 7.5GB), 24X CD-ROM, Intel LanDesk Client Manager 3.1J (network client management software), and Windows NT Workstation 4.0. It comes with a Wake-On-LAN 100M-bps Ethernet Interface (10/100-BaseTX) that enables remote power-on from Client Manager 3.1J.
The Apricot LS660 retails for \468,000.

A Windows Mac machine
Kojima, an electronics retailer based in Tochigi, in cooperation with Apple Computer, has released a Power Mac G3 system that runs both Mac OS and Windows 95. The system, a Power Macintosh G3 DT 233 with Virtual PC (a Mac-based Windows 95 enabler) preinstalled, comes with 233-MHz PowerPC G3 microprocessor, 64MB of RAM, and Apple Keyboard II. Windows 95 is preinstalled, but Microsoft Word and Excel must be purchased separately. Windows applications run on the system at a speed equivalent to a 120-MHz Pentium CPU. By registering, buyers can upgrade their preinstalled Virtual PC for free, which can increase Windows application processing by up to 40%. The Kojima system retails for \298,000.

A powerful program editor from Fujitsu
Fujitsu has released PowerEditor 6.0, an advanced-function text editing application. The software was localized from the popular US package Codewright for Windows 5.0c, with additional functions added by Fujitsu. PowerEditor 6.0 supports the newest versions of COBOL, Fortran, C/C++, ASM, Pascal, HTML, and Java. It allows for speedy editing of files larger than 500MB, with unlimited undo capability. Edited text can be e-mailed from within the program via Microsoft Mail or Lotus CC:Mail. The various functions of PowerEditor can be customized using C, so there is no need to learn program-specific macros. The software, which runs on Windows 95/NT, retails for \9,800.

Liquid crystal digital camera from Casio
Casio ComputerŐs QV-770 liquid crystal digital camera can create short animations and panoramic photos comprising linked shots. In animation mode, pressing the shutter snaps 32 frames at intervals of 0.1 second, resulting in a 3.2-second moving image. Images can be displayed on a PC at 640x480 dpi. An infrared static image protocol, IrTran-P, enables cordless transmission of data between the QV-770 and other digital cameras or equipment. The camera employs a refined image processing algorithm for true reproduction of natural colors. The 4MB of built-in flash memory can hold up to 30 high-quality, 60 standard, or 120 "economy mode" photographs. The retail price of the camera is \53,000; software must be purchased separately.

Japanese Word 98 now on sale
In March, Microsoft released Word 98. The package includes Microsoft/Shogakukan Bookshelf Basic, an automated background proofreading function, 7-digit postal code conversion dictionary, webpage creation wizard, and more. Text (such as "Sample" or "Confidential") can be printed in the background of text as a "watermark." With Microsoft Outlook for Windows, Word 98 can be used as mailing software. The retail price is open, but users who have bought Microsoft Office 97 or have preinstalled, bundled Excel 97, Word 97, or Outlook 97 for Windows can qualify to receive Word 98 for only \2,000 (delivery charge) until May 31.
