How long has
your company been doing business in Japan?
DISCO Inc. was founded in 1973 with the primary aim of helping companies provide
recruiting information to prospective candidates to help them make suitable career
choices. Over the many years, DISCO Inc. has developed a wide variety of products
and services to meet the strategic staffing needs of cutting-edge companies.
DISCO business
fields cover the publishing of placement and recruitment guides, corporate brochures
and magazines, as well as direct mail advertising. DISCO also engages in organizing
both domestic and international career fairs/recruitment seminars and carries
out human resources consultancy work.
In 1989, DISCO
International was incorporated in the United States by its Japan head office to
assist Japanese and American companies in their efforts to reach and recruit talented
Japanese and American bilingual students studying in North America. Based in New
York, DISCO International currently organizes the world's largest Japanese-English
job fairs each year in Boston, San Francisco, and New York. The company is proud
to have placed thousands of job seekers with world-class companies for over a
decade. Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, IBM, Anderson Consulting, Hewlett-Packard,
and Sony Corp. are only a few of the many companies that participate in DISCO
Career Forums for their annual recruiting.
What is your
current business focus?
DISCO International, the world's largest producer of Japanese-English bilingual
recruiting events and publications, is proud to launch an exciting interactive
job website. MidCareer.com is a website created to help companies locate hard-to-find,
experienced professionals with Japanese-English bilingual skills. Incorporating
the latest technology, this recruiting tool enables companies to recruit in the
most effective and time-efficient manner.
Job seekers with
Japanese-English bilingual skills will enjoy free-of-charge the many benefits
of this innovative job site. In MidCareer.com, candidates determine the criteria
for their ideal jobs and only the best-matching job opportunities will be sent
directly to their personal e-mail address. MidCareer.com is the ideal meeting
place for Japanese-English bilingual candidates wanting to advance or change their
career. Mark you calendarÑSeptember 1, 1999-for its grand opening.
How would you
differentiate DISCO Inc. from your competitors?
MidCareer.com is the only job website that caters strictly to Japanese-English
bilingual professionals. This means that job seekers spend less time filtering
through all kinds of irrelevant job openings and can use time-saved for more important
purposes, i.e., preparing for interviews. Additionally, DISCO International brings
to this new service a tradition and experience of placing more Japanese-English
bilingual candidates than any other company.
How do you see
the demand for IT professionals with Japanese-English bilingual skills?
As the globalization trend continues, Japanese companies are increasingly recognizing
the value of foreign-language and cultural skills in conjunction with one's professional
background. Of all the foreign languages, English is the de facto language for
international business and, accordingly, corporate recruiters are looking for
at least a basic-level English for many job positions. They understand that their
company's future prosperity depends on the continued internationalization of their
business.
What are some
of the benefits of using Internet recruiting, as with MidCareer.com?
There are a number of advantages for both candidates and companies who use Internet
recruiting. Not only does it give companies and job hunters access to broader
markets and opportunities, it also makes their presence known instantaneously.
By the time you see a job in a newspaper or a trade journal, the listing may be
several days or weeks old. By posting job openings and resumes on MidCareer.com,
interested candidates or employers can browse the site any time, at their convenience,
to find the most current information available. For companies looking for IT professionals,
the Internet is certainly the best place to find them.
Using the Web is
one way to prove that you are up-to-date with the technology and that you are
Net-savvy. For companies looking for a specific skill set, it's also easier to
target their audience, using keyword electronic searches to find just the right
combination of skills and experience. Database building is another advantage.
Even if a company can't find the right employee for a current opening, having
the information digitized means that they can sort the information and put it
into a database for future reference.
Relationship building
is also possible because we can easily keep in touch with members of our database
via electronic mail. Sending out updates to client companies is now a simple process.
