Fujifilm has released a thermo-autochrome (TA) digital color printer, the Fujix NC-501, that produces high-quality A4- or A5-size color printouts on TA paper and OHP (transparency) film. Capable of reproducing 16.77 million colors at 300 dpi (dots per inch) resolution, the NC-501's printouts have photograph-like quality. TA technology brings out colors by applying heat and UV rays to the three color layers (yellow/magenta/cyan) in the TA paper. Since the color is contained in the paper itself, no ink cartridges or ribbons are needed. Priced at JPY790,000, the Fujix NC-501 printer is compatible with Macintosh and Windows systems.
