Super ColorioSuper Colorio special color version
Epson has released a special color version of the PM-770C, its popular inkjet printer released in October 1998. Just like the iMac, the special colors are cast in "skeleton" see-through plastic, and include blueberry, grape, tangerine, lime, and strawberry. The printer is equipped with USB, parallel, and serial interfaces, so it can be used with the iMac, the Power Mac, and Windows-based machines. The maximum resolution is 1440x720 dpi, and the printer is 429 x 261 x 167mm, and weighs 5.2kg. Only 5,000 of each color of this limited version will be manufactured, for a total of 25,000 units. Kyocera has released the world's first mobile color videophone, the Visual Phone VP-210. This PHS handset device comes with a 2.0" TFT color LCD, and its 32Kbps data communications capability allows the transmission of two video frames per second. It supports P Mail DX, DDI Pocket's e-mail service, and users can send video clips attached to e-mail messages. It features a continuous talk time of 60 minutes in videophone mode, and 120 minutes in PHS mode. It measures 54 x 140 x 29mm, and weighs 165g. Retail price is open. Kyocera: 045-943-6138

ThinkPad 240ThinkPad 240 from IBM
IBM Japan has released the new model of its ThinkPad series, the ThinkPad 240. This B5-size notebook computer comes with a 300MHz CPU, 64MB of SDRAM, a 6.4GB HDD, and a 10.4" TFT color monitor. It is only 26.6mm thick and weighs 1.32kg, but has a full-size keyboard with a 2.5mm keystroke. Users can choose to have Windows 95 or 98 preinstalled. RapidscanRapidscan from Fujitsu
Fujitsu has released the world's smallest portable scanner, the Rapidscan RS-20U. The scanner portion measures 17.6 x 183 x 14.7mm and weighs 80g. Its resolution is 400dpi and it is capable of scanning an A6-size sheet of paper in 2.6 seconds. It includes a USB interface, allowing it to be connected to desktop PCs as well as notebook or handheld PCs. The power is supplied through the USB adapter, which allows it to work without batteries. Persona from HitachiNew Persona from Hitachi
Hitachi has released the industry's first cdmaOne interface embedded handheld computer. The A5-size Persona HPW-600 runs Windows CE H/PC Pro 3.0 and is equipped with the company's 230MIPS (million instructions per second) SH-4 processor, and a 640x480 dpi color STN LCD. Compliant with the cdmaOne format, the handheld computer supports 14.4Kbps data communications. This HPC comes in two models -- the HPW-600JC with 32MB of memory is targeted at corporate users (retail price at JPY148,000), and the HPW-600 JCM with 16MB of memory is for individual users (retail price is open).
